Robert J. Cardinal

Sturbridge...Robert J. Cardinal, 89, a former longtime resident of Soutbridge, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Southbridge Rehab & Healthcare Center. His wife of 49 1/2 years was the late Florence (Ethier) Cardinal who died January 7, 2003.

He is survived by his 2 daughters Lou-Ann Ciukaj and her husband Richard of Sturbridge, and Rose Cournoyer and her husband Michael of Sturbridge, and 3 grandchildren Katie Dandurand and her companion Patrick House of Mississippi, Christopher Ciukaj and his wife Samantha of Sturbridge, and Dean Cournoyer of Worcester. He also leaves a great-grandson Carson Ciukaj and 2 step-great-grandchildren Colton and Caden House, a sister-in-law Rejeanne Ethier of Canada, a cousin Richard Lariviere of Florida, and his longtime companion Sandra Palmerino of Southbridge, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cardinal was born in Southbridge, son of August and Rose Alma (Raiche) Cardinal and lived here most of his life. He was a graduate of the former Cole Trade High School, and a lifetime member of Notre Dame Church, a former member of the church choir, a member of the Worcester Light Opera Club, performing in their musicals, loved to go out to eat, especially at "piano bars" to sing, and trips to the casino. He most enjoyed attending his grandsons sport events, and spending time with his family. He was the President and owner of Spec-Elec Plating Corp. of Worcester, retiring many years ago. 

The funeral Mass will be held at 10AM, on Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Notre Dame Church, (please meet directly at the church) 446 Main Street, Southbridge, MA 01550. There are no calling hours.  Burial will be private.
