Southbridge...Rita M. (Labarge) Fontaine Brodeur, 103, a lifelong resident of Southbridge, died July 13, 2023, at Quaboag Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center. Her husband was the late Henry Brodeur, who died in 1981. Her first husband was the late Arthur Fontaine who died in 1947.
She is survived by her sons: Arthur "Zu" Fontaine of Webster, and Norman Brodeur and his fiancée Janet Blanco of Southbridge, and 3 daughters: Connie Miles of E. Longmeadow, Jean Jolin and her husband Lucien of Southbridge, and Joan Fontaine of Southbridge. She also leaves her brother Donald Labarge of Exton PA, and her sister Gloria "Pit" and her husband Ronald Poirier of Southbridge. Mrs. Brodeur also leaves her daughter-in-law Lisa Brodeur of Charlton, 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sons: Paul Fontaine (2008), Michael Brodeur (1997), Donald Brodeur (1996), Emile Fontaine (1962). She was also predeceased by a grandson, and a great-grandson, her brothers, Norman Labarge, Romeo Labarge, Jr., Armand Labarge, and Emile Labarge, and her sisters, Lorraine Klatt, Blanche Hebert, and RoseMarie Labarge.
Mrs. Brodeur was a communicant of Notre Dame Church (St. John Paul II Parish), and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality. She worked till the age of 82 at JP Manufacturing in Southbridge, and prior at Countryside Restaurant on weekends. She most enjoyed spending time with her family.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Quaboag Rehab & Skilled Care Center for the wonderful care they provided to Mrs. Brodeur, and also a special "thank you" to her sister Gloria and her husband Ronald for their dedicated and loving daily care.
The funeral will be Tuesday, July 18th, from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, with the Mass at 11AM at Notre Dame Church, 446 Main Street, Southbridge. Burial will follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, 746 N. Woodstock Road, Southbridge. Calling hours will be Monday, July 17, 2023, at the funeral home from 5-7PM.
