Richard and Rita Lariviere were both born and raised in Southbridge, Massachusetts. In 2001, they moved to Hobe Sound, Florida, to enjoy a slower pace and warmer weather. Their love story began when they locked eyes at a dance at Notre Dame in 1953 — a bond that endured through decades, filled with faith, family, and devotion to God and each other.

Now, after a lifetime together — and some time apart following Richard’s passing — they are finally reunited, side by side, both in memory and at rest. Richard was called home in 2019, just before the world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A service was not possible at that time. Rita held close to the hope that one day, she and Richard would be honored together, just as they lived their lives, filled with peace, joy, and most of all, love.

With Rita’s peaceful passing in January 2025, that hope has now been fulfilled. We plan to gather to honor both of them in a single, shared ceremony, reflecting the unity and enduring love they embodied.

Together, they raised five children — Mark, Paul, Anne, Marie, and Michelle — and welcomed into their hearts their children’s spouses, seven grandchildren, and a growing legacy of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. They taught their family the importance of faith and love, along with the values of character, integrity, hard work, and kindness.

Richard and Rita’s love was the foundation of their family. Their spirits now rest in the arms of the Lord. We rejoice in knowing they are home together again, resting in eternal peace.

There will be a private burial service for them both on Friday, May 30th, followed by a funeral Mass at Notre Dame Church of Saint John Paul II parish at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to attend.
