Sturbridge – Richard Adelard Tremblay, 89, died on November 14 at UMass Memorial Medical Center/University Campus after an illness.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Carol (Faxon) Tremblay, whom he married on September 11, 1981.
Richard is survived by his son, Kevin J. Tremblay of Clearwater, Florida. He is also survived by his daughter, Heather Longa and her husband Mark of North Attleborough, MA, and his daughter Karen L. Olszta and her husband Tom of Naples, Florida. He was the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren: Veronica Kazei (husband Vladimir), Kevin R. Tremblay (wife Jordan), Keith Gattozzi, Jr. (partner Alex), Erica Cardile (husband Frank), Keith Fontaine (wife Tracy), Keri Berkson (husband David), Lee Perreault, Jarrod Perreault (partner Elizabeth), and Dale Perreault (wife Nicole), as well as ten great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sons, Richard W. A. Tremblay (1963) and Kevin R. Lariviere (2024), his daughter, Lisa J. Perreault (2025), his grandson, Thomas J. Olszta (2021), and his sister, Jeanine Pontbriand (2008).
Born in Southbridge, Richard was the son of the late Adelard and Aurore (Collette) Tremblay. He lived in Southbridge for many years before moving to Sturbridge. Richard graduated from the former Cole Trade High School and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired from Pratt & Whitney as a test engineer in the R&D division. He was also an active member of the American Legion Champeau Vilandre Post #109 in Fiskdale, the VFW Post 6055, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #334.
Richard had a passion for archery and was a member of the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club in Sturbridge. He found joy in fishing, boating, gardening and was an avid reader. For many years, Richard and Carol would travel to Florida, where they loved spending time with Karen and Tom, creating many wonderful memories.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Services to honor Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, with visitation from 5-7PM at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge. The funeral Mass at 11AM will be held on Thursday, November 20, at Saint Mary's Church, 247 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, MA 01550. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, 746 N. Woodstock Road, Southbridge.The family asks that you kindly consider making memorial donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
