Norman Brunell Obituary

Sturbridge - Norman O. Brunell, 95, died peacefully, while surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton, MA.

Norman was born in Southbridge, MA, on May 16, 1929, son of the late Louis and Roseanna (Rochon) Brunell.  He proudly served as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War, serving in Virginia, and Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, as well as four months overseas. He retired after a 35 year career at the United Lens Company, where he worked as a molder.  He was also a part-time painter and wallpaper hanger.  After his retirement, Norman went to work for the Elderbus in Charlton.  Norman was a man of faith, and was a long time member of Notre Dame Parish, and of service to his parish festival as a Bingo worker.  He was a very sensitive, kind, and caring man.  He loved traveling, was an avid book reader and gardener, enjoyed playing pitch, completing jigsaw puzzles, and playing bingo at the Overlook, as well as socializing with his friends and staff.  The family would like to thank the staff of Overlook for their wonderful care of Norman during his time there.

Norman was married to his wife, Claire M. (Jarry) Brunell, from October 3, 1951 until her death on June 12, 2002.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Laurent "Larry" and Lydia (Caouette) Brunell; ten grandchildren: Lauren Rae Brunell; Lance N. Brunell and his partner, Carla Gallagher; Daniel Brunell and his wife, Sarah; Jeffrey Brunell and his fiancée Rochelle Forsyth; Stephen Brunell and his fiancée Samantha Ivanits; Brandon Brunell and his wife, Laura; Marissa Peterson and her husband, Tyler; Dara Brunell and her partner, Joel Sherman; Brenda Boucher and her husband, Bryan; Erica Brunell and her partner, Brian Korzec; 14 great-grandchildren: Noland and Wyatt Brunell, Nathanael and Claire Brunell, Jacob Brunell and Harlie Ivanits; Julian and Cruz Brunell, Aiden, Ethan, and Maezlyn Peterson; Hunter and Brian Sherman, and Jack Boucher.  He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Diane Brunell, and his sister-in-law, Marie Poulin, as well as many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.  Norman was predeceased by his sons: Donald N. Brunell in 2016, David R. Brunell in 2017, and Brian B. Brunell in 2010; his brothers, Louis Brunell, Arthur "Chick" Brunell (2008), Romeo Brunell (1999) and Raymond Brunell (1917); and his sisters: Irene Guilbault (2007), Flora Arpin (2010), Leona Berry (2016), Yvonne Frenier (2001), Laura Caplette (1997), Anna Brunell (2000), and Lillian Kusek (2010).  

A calling hour will be from 9:30-10:30AM on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00AM at Notre Dame Church, 446 Main Street, Southbridge, MA.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, 746 North Woodstock Road, Southbridge, MA.
