Nicholas "Nick" Stevens Obituary

In Loving Memory of Nicholas P. Stevens

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Nicholas P. Stevens, 37, on October 25, 2024. Nicholas, known to many as Nick, was a beloved father, son, partner, brother and friend whose departure from this world has left an irreplaceable void.

Nick was born on September 2, 1987 and grew up in Charlton, MA. He graduated from Shepherd Hill High School and continued his adult life in the surrounding area. Nick’s greatest pride was his beloved son, Colby Joseph. He often referred to Colby as his True North and cherished every moment they spent together. Nick and his partner, Kelsey Mondor, spent the last five years creating memories, with one of the most treasured being a simple Sunday morning coffee run, followed by spending time together on the couch, and ending the day with Nick making a home-cooked meal and hopping into bed early to read. These wholesome Sundays became even more special with the arrival of Colby, and Kelsey will continue carrying on Nick’s love for Colby for years to come. Nick’s life was also enriched by the companionship of his sidekick Jax, the most gentle and playful pit bull. Jax brought immense joy and comfort to Nick throughout all of his endeavors for the past five years. Anyone who knew Nick knew being with his family brought out the absolute best version of him.

Nick’s mother, Kelly DiLiddo and her husband, Frank D DiLiddo III shared many wonderful memories together, Kelly and Nick, self-proclaimed foodies, enjoyed swapping recipes and dining out at Soup to Nuts, a tradition started by his grandmother Maxine. Kelly and Nick spent hours in deep conversation about their faith, American politics and historical fiction. Frank and Nick shared a love and passion for Firefighting, and enjoyed sharing stories of fires, watching fire truck videos and chatting about the fire responses they had gone on.

Nick leaves behind his sister Courtney Brunelle for whom he was very inspirational to as the older brother. His humor, intelligence and resilience has left an indelible mark on her. His passion for cars and nature has helped mold her life, whenever a Camaro goes by it brings a warm feeling in her heart. He also leaves his sister Rebecca Brunelle and her partner George Peterson. Becca holds special memories of Nick, whose adventurous, grounded and free spirit touched her. He was there for her in a heartbeat. His gifts were true to his essence and will stay close to her heart. He also leaves his brother Frank D DiLiddo IV and his wife Lisa, whom he thought so highly of.

Nick is also survived by his father, Russell Stevens, and his wife, Andrea Stevens. Nick and his father always shared a strong passion for Mopar muscle cars and spent many hours in the garage tinkering with them, often followed by a smokey burnout for all the neighbors to hear. Nick and his father always enjoyed weekend rides in their favorite Mopar and drinking coffee with other car enthusiasts. Andrea met Nick when he was four years old, and enjoyed getting to watch him grow up and become a big brother to siblings Garrett and Alexandra Stevens. The three of them enjoyed swapping music recommendations, trading books, and talking about all of life’s trials and tribulations. Garrett and Alexandra will always hold fond memories of Nick’s quick wit, knack for creating nicknames that are still carried on, and above all else, making them laugh often at their own expense.

Nick also leaves behind his maternal grandmother, Carolyn Colby, and his paternal grandparents, Patrick and Maxine Stevens, who will continue to hold him in their hearts. Nick had many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews who adored him.

Professionally, Nick was a dedicated heavy equipment operator. He graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in 2019 and followed his true passion of being a volunteer firefighter in Spencer. An avid reader, Nick had a keen interest in military and American history, for which he routinely engaged in many long philosophical conversations with his mother, Uncle Todd and brother Garrett, reflecting his curiosity and love for learning. He was known for his compassionate and caring nature, ever present sarcasm, and taking every opportunity to tell those around him how much he loved his son, the light of his life.

Nick’s life, though cut short, was filled with love, devotion, and a spirit of hope that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

The family truly appreciates the outpouring of support from friends and loved ones.

The family will have a private burial to honor Nick's life.
