Michael A. Merchant

Fiskdale ~ Michael Andrew Merchant, Sr., 68, of Fiskdale, MA, died Friday, November 11, 2022, from complications of congestive heart failure, at UMass Memorial Health Harrington.

Michael was born in Holyoke, MA on October 3, 1954, son of the late Mark A. and Lucille T. (Barthelette) Merchant.  He grew up in South Hadley, MA.  In 1983, he married the love of his life, Donna Emily (Rivest) Merchant.  In addition to his loving wife, he is also survived by his son, Michael A. Merchant II of Fiskdale, MA; his daughter, Melissa M. Merchant and her fiancé, Raymond Cousineau, of Southbridge, MA; his only surviving grandchild, Rose Mary Lapierre; two brothers: David Merchant and his wife, Beth, of Granby, MA; and Kenny Merchant and his wife, Barb, of South Hadley, MA; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.  Michael was predeceased by 7 grandchildren: Wade, Magenta, Froggie, and Destiny Lapierre, and Dream, Hope, and Heaven Cousineau; and also by his sister, Linda English.

Michael was a graduate of Holyoke Trade School.  From 1989-1999, he moved his family to Jacksonville, FL; during that time, he worked for the City of Jacksonville as a street sign and light installer.  After moving back to Massachusetts, Michael was employed as a forklift operator, working for National Distribution Center.  Mike is a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus Council #4044.  He loved old movies, oldies music, and the color sky blue.  He also loved good food (especially his wife's delicious baking), and family dinner and game nights where he and his family played cards and games.  He truly loved his family and friends and will be missed by all.  He was so loved.
