Marcel Emmanuel St. Laurent

Sturbridge - Marcel Emmanuel St. Laurent, 93, died peacefully Friday morning, August 13, 2021, after a short period of failing health.  He was surrounded by his loved ones in the comfort of his home. 

He was born in Windsor, Canada, son of Frederick and Marie Anne (Chenevert) St. Laurent.  Marcel worked as a farmer for a few years before moving to Burlington, VT where he met his bride, Brigitte Cote.  They were married in 1953, moved to, and built a home in, Sturbridge, MA where they raised their 6 children, and remained there until this day.  He was a member of Notre Dame Church in Southbridge, MA. 

Marcel was loved by all, hugged all he saw, and loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally.  All felt loved and special when he spent time with them.  Marcel spent most of his time a a gifted machinist and handy man.  He could repair any motor, and sharpen any saw.  He was a gifted wood worker, and had a very determined work ethic, which he passed on to his children. 

He is survived by his wife, Brigitte, of almost 68 years; his children, Lucie Satkowski of Holland, MA, Helen Hakala (Jack) of New Ipswich, NH, Claire Bouchard (Paul) of Charlton, MA, Lise Hunt (Bobby) of Soutbridge, MA, Gilbert St. Laurent (Doreen) of York, SC, and Mike St. Laurent (Gail) of Southbridge, MA.  He leaves 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren (2 more on the way), his brothers Ferdinand, Roland, Raymond, Jacques, Colin, Jean Guy; a sister Pierette; and many nephews and nieces.

Marcel's funeral will be Monday, August 16, 2021 from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial at Notre Dame Church, 446 Main Street, Southbridge at 11AM.  Burial will immediately follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, N. Woodstock Road, Southbridge.  Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 5-7PM.
