Marc A. Cournoyer

Marc A. Cournoyer, 74, of Southbridge, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at UMass Memorial Healthcare Center, following a long illness. 

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Janet M (DeRouin) Cournoyer; his son Jacob "Jake" Cournoyer, of Vernon, CT; his daughter Jamey Mekal and her husband, Michael of Southbridge; 4 grandchildren: Kaytlyn Jacques and her husband Matthew, of Tyngsboro, MA; Kristopher Mekal of Southbridge; Kimberly Cournoyer and Alex Cournoyer both of Vernon, CT. 

Born in Southbridge, MA, on March 11, 1950, Marc was one of 10 children born to the late Theodore and Edna M. (Proulx) Cournoyer.  He is survived by 3 brothers: Theodore Cournoyer Jr. and his wife, Lolly, of FL; Robert Cournoyer of Sturbridge; Paul Cournoyer and his wife, Emily, of Dudley;  4 sisters: Madeleine Cotton of Southbridge; Charlotte Peck and her husband, Roger, of Union, CT; Claudette Biadasz and her husband, Joseph, of Charlton; and Suzanne Girard of Hamilton, MA.  He is also survived by his 2 sisters-in-law, Paulette King and Diane Kurr, both of Holland, MA, as well as many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.  Marc was predeceased by 2 sisters: Genevieve Gaudet and Carmen Hebert; and 2 brothers-in-law: John Kurr and Jeffrey King. 

He was a graduate of the former Cole Trade High School.  Marc's dream was to be a business owner.  Along with a close friend, he opened his first business, Just Jeans, on Main St in Southbridge. He went on to own more businesses throughout his life.  Along with his wife they owned many real estate properties.  You could find Marc either working at a property or home in his garage enjoying his true passion, restoring cars.  Marc bought his first MG as a young adult. Something he would enjoy with his brothers throughout his lifetime.
