Lorette Martel Obituary

Southbridge...Lorette C. (Peloquin) Martel, 97, formerly of Red Oak Lane, died November 2, 2021, surrounded by her family.  Her husband of 69 years, was the late Bernard J. Martel, who died May 21, 2016. 

She is survived by her sons Bernard F. Martel and his wife Francine of Southbridge, Jeffrey R. Martel of Whitinsville, and her daughters Susan and her husband Attorney Michael V. Caplette of Sturbridge with whom she recently lived, Elaine C. Martel of Sturbridge, Juliet Martel of Southbridge, and Gail Martel Butcher  of Oxford. She also leaves 3 grandsons Evan Butcher and his wife Rachel of Suffield, CT, Greg Butcher of Waltham and his girlfriend Samantha Clougherty, Alex Butcher of Flagstaff, Arizona, 2 step-grandsons Jeremy Plouffe and his wife Janel of Minneola, FL, and Jason Plouffe and his wife Jenna of Waitsfield, Vermont,  2 great-grandchildren Graham and Everett Butcher, and 4 step-great-grandchildren Brayden, Aubrey, Berkley, and Elowyn Plouffe.  She also leaves 2 sisters-in-law Yvette Peloquin of Webster, and Rita Lofgren of Sturbridge.  Mrs. Martel was predeceased by 3 brothers Leo, John and Robert Peloquin, and a sister Theresa Peloquin.

Mrs. Martel was born March 20, 1924, in Chicopee, daughter of Joseph and Diana (Robidoux) Peloquin and moved to Southbridge in 1939 after living in Hardwick, Vermont for many years. She was a member of St. John Paul II Parish, and an active member of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne Sodality, Parent Teacher's Guild, Inter-Faith Choir, Sacred Heart Choir, captain of the One-Twenty Club, and was on the Committee for the restoration of the stained-glass windows of the church.  She also was a longtime Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and worked for many years for the flea market.

She was a cafeteria worker for many years for the Southbridge Public Schools, and prior to that she worked as an inspector at the American Optical Company. 

A calling hour will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 9:15-10:15AM, at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge followed by the funeral Mass at 10:30AM at Saint Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton Street, Southbridge.  Burial will follow at Old Notre Dame Cemetery, Charlton Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.
