Juan Colón Obituary

Southbridge – Juan Antonio Colón, 71, beloved husband of Maritza Colón (Rodríguez), passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – Belmont Street Campus in Worcester, after a brief illness.

In addition to his loving wife, Juan is survived by their four children: Juan C. Colón and his wife, Mariluz, and their children, Carlos, Juandiel, and Gladysmarie; Yvonne Negrón and her husband, Luis, and their children, Yamelys and Luis; Victor O. Colón and his wife, Eline, and their children, Donovan, Amarii, Carlos, and Cristian; and Yaritza Colón and her husband, Michael Van Buren, and their beloved dog, Oso.

He also leaves behind his sisters, Rosa, Aurea, Aida and her husband Jose, and Nydia, and his brother, Luis; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Carmen G. Merced, Victor A. Rodríguez and his partner Antonio, Rubén Rodríguez and his wife Marilyn, Ángel L. Rodríguez and his wife Sophy, Luz H. Rodríguez, and Grisel Penniman and husband Michael; his dear aunt, Rita Rivera; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.

Juan was predeceased by his brother, Wilfredo Colón; his sister, Hermenegilda Miranda; and Yaritza’s beloved dog, Rigoletto, whom he loved dearly.

Born on May 7, 1954, in Orocovis, Puerto Rico, Juan was the son of Geracimo and Mercedes Colón. He worked for 45 years at Rand-Whitney Container in Worcester, MA, retiring in 2019 as a Supervisor. A devoted member of St. Mary’s Church in Southbridge, Juan took great pride in caring for his home and was known as an accomplished handyman — a true jack of all trades. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would teach himself, whether by reading or, more recently, by watching YouTube videos.

Juan will be remembered for his incredible strength and courage throughout the last few months as he faced significant changes in his health. His determination, resilience, and faith were an inspiration to everyone around him.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 247 Hamilton Street, Southbridge. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Charlton Street, Southbridge.
