Jimmy Richard Obituary

Southbridge...Jean L. A. "Jimmy" Richard, 88, died Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Harrington Memorial Hospital. His wife was the late Betsy P. (Collin) Richard who died October 30, 2007. They were married August 15, 1956.

He leaves many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Michael Richard of Dudley, who died March 26, 1999, his daughter Maureen (Richard) Grungo of Boston who died May 2, 1992, and his grandson Nicholas Richard of Webster, who died June 26, 2017. 
He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Albert Richard of Webster, Normand Richard of Chicopee, and his sisters Emeria Grzembski, Bertha Bonneau, Gertrude Sherbert, and Cecile Ohop all of Southbridge.

He was born in Southbridge, July 28, 1931, son of Euclide and Yvonne (Poirier) Richard and lived all his life in Southbridge.  He was a graduate of the former Cole Trade High School and was a lifelong member of Notre Dame Church where he served on the Fall Festival for many years. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving in the Korean War, aboard the USS Gilbert Islands.  Jimmy was a member of the Town of Southbridge Auxiliary Police Department for 30 years, and served as it's Chief for many years.  He was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, and also of the former VFW Post 6055. 


He retired in 1992 from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in E. Hartford, where he worked for 40 years. He later worked in security for 20years at Harrington Memorial Hospital, retiring about 5 years ago.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10AM, December 23, 2019, at Notre Dame Church, (please meet directly at the church) 446 Main Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.  Burial will follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, 746 N. Woodstock Road, Southbridge, MA 01550.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. John Paul II Food Pantry, 279 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.
