Southbridge...James J. Helliwell, 88, died peacefully at his home April 7, 2025. Jim is survived and will be missed by his wife Pauline (Gendreau) Helliwell, whom he married on November 11, 1961.
He is also survived by his son, John A. Helliwell of Southbridge, his daughters, Gail A. Helliwell of Woodstock CT, Michelle Desruisseaux and her husband Robert of Sutton, Marie Checkosky and her husband Kevin of Southbridge, and 5 grandchildren, Nicole Prunier, Rochelle Desruisseaux, Derek Desruisseaux, Emily Menard, and Eli Checkosky, and 4 great-grandchildren, Colton Beauchamp, Malykai Beauchamp, twin great-grandsons Bentley and Kingston Roldan. He was predeceased by his grandson, Dylan Lavallee, who passed June 15, 2023, and his brother William Helliwell of Baltimore, MD.
Jim was born in Worcester, June 24, 1936, son of the late John Raymond and Christine V. (Allard) Helliwell. He was a graduate of the former Cole Trade High School, and served in the US Army Reserves. He was a master carpenter and cabinetmaker. He was also a longtime logger and sold firewood. He previously worked for Galileo and Mosaic Fabrications in Sturbridge. His passions were riding his motorcycle, photography and hunting, and enjoyed any time he could spend outdoors. He was also a handy fix-it-man and a jack of all trades.
Private services will be held for immediate family In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice.
