Irene (Szczygiel) Desrosier

Charlton - Irene (Szczygiel) Desrosier, 91, died Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at UMass Memorial Health Harrington.

Born in Enfield, CT, on March 15, 1935, Irene was the daughter of the late John F. and Mary E. Szczygiel. She was a graduate of the class of 1952 from the former Mary E. Wells High School in Southbridge. Irene was a member of the Harrington Memorial Hospital's Auxiliary group, volunteering her time and services to the hospital for many years. She enjoyed playing cribbage, being challenged by crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy each weeknight.

Irene was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Edward D. Desrosier, who passed away  August 7, 2024. She is survived by her sons: Edward Charles "Chuck" Desrosier and his wife, Karen, of Lake Wales, FL; and Bruce J. Desrosier and his wife, Nancy Coderre, of Southbridge; her daughter, Gail A. Desrosier and her partner, Joseph Venie, of North Haven, CT; 7 grandchildren: Melanie Beck and her husband, Kai; Andrew Kaczmarek, Abigail Kaczmarek, Leah Kaczmarek, Paige Kaczmarek, Lindsey Cruz and her husband, Juan; and Shannon Huffman and her wife, Rebecca; 7 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Cheryl Ryan and her husband, Billy, of Southbridge. Irene was predeceased by her daughter, Jan Lenzotti, who passed away in 1997, as well as by her brother, John F. Szczygiel, Jr. of Charlton.

Irene's funeral will be held on Monday, April 13, from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA, with a Funeral Mass at 11AM at St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton Street, Southbridge. Burial will immediately follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, N. Woodstock Road, Southbridge. Calling hours will be Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 4-6PM at the funeral home.
