Inez Melendez

Southbridge - Inez Melendez, 82, died December 30, 2020 at Harrington Memorial Hospital, following an illness

Born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico on April 19, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Pablo Alicea and Gumercinda Melendez.  

Her husband, Angel L Aponte, died August 26, 1986.  She is survived by her sons, Jose Aponte of Southbridge, Pedro Aponte and his fiance, Cruz Romero, of Worcester, Ramon Aponte and his fiance, Melissa Schultz, of Oxford, Antonio Aponte and his fiance, Jessica Santiago, of Sturbridge, Carlos Aponte and his wife, Lourdes, of Southbridge, Rafael Aponte and his wife, Maribel, of Kissimmee, FL; her daughters, Teresa Aponte and her fiance, Gabriel Rodriguez, of Indianapolis, IN, Maria Aponte of Dudley, Nereida Aponte of Southbridge, Carmen Aponte of Southbridge, and Ana Aponte, and her fiance, Edgardo Ortiz, of Southbridge; her granddaughter whom she raised, Sandra Aponte of Indianapolis, IN; she also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved tremendously;  her daughter-in-law Winda Aponte of Southbridge; sisters Carmen Melendez, Margarita Melendez, and Juana Melendez.  She was predeceased by her sons Edilberto Aponte who died January 18, 2014, and Orlando Aponte who died April 23, 2020.

Inez was an exemplary mother and grandmother who was devoted to helping raise her grandchildren. Inez enjoyed reading the bible and praying.  She was an amazing cook who made sure all her family enjoyed cooking as well.  She faithfully donated money to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and many other organizations.
