George Smith Obituary

Charlton - George D. Smith, Sr., 79, died Sunday, March 26, 2023 at his home.  

George's beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Jane (Blash) Smith, died September 2, 2022.  He is survived by his sons George D. Smith, Jr., of and Brian K. Smith, both of Charlton; his daughter Georgina "Gina" Gardner and her husband, Michael, of Charlton; 11 grandchildren: Chelsea Ferguson, Christopher Healy, Zachary Gardner, Alexis Peden, Marissa Lamontagne, Austin Healy, Amanda Smith, Nathan Healy, Katelyn Smith, George Smith, and Adelynn Smith; 8 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Bruce Smith and his wife, Nancy, of Grafton, MA.  He was predeceased by his daugher, Marie Smith Healy, in 2004.  

Born in Worcester, MA on March 5, 1944, George is the son of the late Elmer and Ida (Shore) Smith.  He was employed by the Norton Company in Worcester for many years.  His proudest "job", however, was being a farmer.  George and Mary Jane also enjoyed raising racing horses.  George was especially proud of his family, and he enjoyed every moment he spent with them.   

George's funeral mass will be Friday, March 31, 2023 at 9:30AM at St. Joseph's Church, 10 H. Putnam Road, Charlton, MA.  Please meet directly at the church.  There are no calling hours.  Burial will immediately follow at West Ridge Cemetery, Main Street, Charlton.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial donation in George's name to the Chipin Food Bank, PO Box 611, Charlton, MA 01507.
