Southbridge...George J. Pontbriand, 93, died at home Friday, August 28th, surrounded by his family. His wife of 55 years was the late Jeanine (Tremblay) Pontbriand, who died in January
2008. He is survived by his 3 daughters Jeanine and her husband Phil Pettinelli of Southbridge, Denise and her husband William Grudzien of Sturbridge, and Marie and her husband Jason Ricci of Sturbridge. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, Lauren Pettinelli, Dean Pettinelli, Samuel Grudzien, Jackson Grudzien, Olivia Ricci, Connor Ricci, and 3 great-grandchildren
Isabella and Logan Pettinelli, and Maxwell DeJesus, a brother Paul Pontbriand of Holland, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Roland, Edward, Roger, Eugene, Louis and Ray Pontbriand.
He was born in Southbridge, son of Arthur and Lea (Brousseau) Pontbriand and lived here all his life. He was a lifetime member of Notre Dame Church (Parish of St. John Paul II).
He was a proud veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He also served in the Merchant Marines. George was a carpenter/builder all his life, and was an avid horseman all his life. He and his brothers previously owned the former Mashapaug Park Campground in Sturbridge.
The funeral will be Tuesday, September 1, 2020, from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA with the funeral Mass at 10AM at Notre Dame Church, 446 Main Street, Southbridge. Burial with Military Honors will follow at New Notre Dame Cemetery, 746 North Woodstock Road, Southbridge. A calling hour at the funeral home will be held from 8:30-9:30am prior to the Mass.
