Southbridge - George C. DiBonaventura, 96, beloved companion of June (Savary) Lemire, died peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026.  June and George shared 41 wonderful and happy years together.

Born in Southbridge, MA, on December 9, 1929, George was the son of the late Camillo and Ottavia (Perucci) DiBonaventura.  He was a graduate of the former Cole Trade High School in Southbridge.  George served in both the US Navy and the US Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War.  He was a member of the former VFW Post 6055, serving as a Post Commander.  He was also a member of the former American Legion Post 31.  He worked for many years as a maintenance supervisor for the Southbridge Housing Authority.  He also worked in construction and carpentry.  George enjoyed life.  He was a musician, and was in a band in his earlier days; he played the bass guitar well into his 80’s.  He was a wine-making connoisseur, grew beautiful vegetable gardens, and loved traveling cross country. He was the Captain of his boat, The Liongator, and went on many boat adventures enjoying fishing, quahogging, and dock parties. He loved his boat family in Westport who considered him “The Godfather” of C dock. George was very proud of his family and his Italian heritage. He loved his children & grandchildren with all his heart.

In addition to June, George is also survived by his children: Camillo DiBonaventura of Woodstock, CT; Gino DiBonaventura and his wife, Jackie, of Woodstock, CT;  Lisa June Biel and her husband, Conrad, of New Hyde Park, NY; and Cynthia J. Arnold of Orlando, FL; his grandchildren: Eva Arnold, Hannah Arnold, Sarah Arnold, Marcus Arnold, Rachel Arnold, Daniel Arnold, Rosemary (Arnold) Edwards and her husband, Cody, Andrew Arnold, and Aracelis (Biel) Fine and her husband, Adam; and his great-grandchildren; Mathew and Zachary Fine.  He is also survived by June's children: Shawn Lemire and his wife, Ann, of Southbridge, MA; Todd Lemire of Thompson, CT; and Jennifer Boilard and her husband, Peter, of Southbridge; and grandchildren: Brittany (Boilard) Tompkins and her husband, Henry, Nicholas Lemire and his wife, Sophie, and Lauren Lemire.  George is predeceased by his son-in-law Neil Arnold, who died in 2013.  He is also predeceased by his brothers Frank DiBonaventura, and Guerino DiBonaventura, and his sisters: Grace Cesolini, Mary Adams, Desalina "Sal" McClaskey, Anita Ciesluk, and Lena Spinney.

Calling hours for George will be Friday, February 13, 2026, from 10AM-12PM at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA.  A Graveside Service will immediately follow at St. Hedwig's Cemetery, N. Woodstock Road, Southbridge, MA.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers you will kindly consider making memorial donations in George's name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hyland Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306
