Sturbridge...Evelyn Arsenault, a longtime Sturbridge resident, passed away on July 31, 2022 at the age of 98 at the Overlook in Charlton after a long illness.
She was born in Southbridge on November 3, 1923, and raised in both Southbridge, and the North Shore. She was the daughter of the late William and Rosilda (Fontaine) Renaud.
She is survived by four sons Edward Renaud and his wife Darlene of Southbridge, Ronald Renaud and his wife Therese of Sturbridge, Richard Renaud and his wife Barbara of Southbridge, Frank Arsenault of Southbridge, and two daughters Juanita Normandin of Charlton, and Lynn Gorak and her husband Rodney of Lakeland, Florida. She leaves
11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Roland Renaud in 2019; a daughter Tina Arsenault in 2012; an infant daughter; four brothers: Al Renaud of Carolina, Roland Renard of Salem, Edward Renaud of Southbridge, and Edmond Renaud of Oakham, and two sisters: Maria Renaud of Peabody, and Elizabeth Berrett of Colchester, CT.
Evelyn was educated in the Southbridge School System, and worked for many years as an assembler/technician for Schott Fiber Optics and at American Optical Company on the production lines. After retiring in 1986, she worked part time for Howlett Floor Covering and Hebert's Candy.
Evelyn was a professional guitarist and a triple yodeler performing on stage in her young years. She was an avid bowler, playing on several teams in Southbridge, and she enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts. .
Evelyn was recognized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States on February 18, 2002 for her faithful support of American deserving veterans and their families with a Certificate of Appreciation
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Overlook Post-Acute Unit in Charlton, Dr Litani and Dr Tumolo and their staff of Southbridge for their attentive and compassionate care for our mother, and the Tri Valley Organization of Dudley for their professional service they provided over the years, and a special thanks to Kathy Flag for her dedication and everything she has done for our mother over the past several years.
A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, from 9:30-10:30AM, at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge followed by a funeral mass at 11AM at St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, MA . Burial will follow at St. Anne's Cemetery, Arnold Road, Sturbridge, MA 01550.
