Donald Coutu Obituary

Southbridge..Donald E. R. Coutu, 82, passed away peacefully February 8th, 2020 as he was willing to accept his call home.  He was surrounded by his family who loved him more than life itself. Donald was a determined and strong survivor during a courageous 6 year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Through it all he was very thankful and remained positive during his rigorous
chemo treatments. “It could always be worse” he would say.
His strong religious faith along with the love from his family were his inspiration. Nothing could stop him.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Sandra (Boucher) Coutu. They were married at Notre Dame Church on November 26, 1964.
He will be painfully missed by his three daughters Debra St Laurent and her husband Jerry, Nancy Pecore and her husband Ken, Tracey Savoie and her husband John Abusamra, and his 7 grandchildren, Emilee St. Laurent, Sarah St. Laurent, Kelsey Pecore, Mikayla Pecore and her fiancé Tim St.Germain, Nicholas Pecore, Angela McGeary and her husband Ryan, and Jerrica Savoie. and 2 great-grandchildren Elliot Savoie, and Tyler McGeary, his Godchildren, and many nieces and nephew.
He also leaves his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vic and Brenda Boucher, and mother-in-law Janet Boucher, along with many close friends and neighbors. Donald was predeceased by his grandson Justin Donald Savoie and his sister Lorraine Morin.

Donald Coutu was born on July 23,1937 on Proulx Ave. in Southbridge, MA to Romeo and Marie (Hebert) Coutu.
Donald was a lifelong member of Notre Dame Church, and graduated from the former Notre Dame High School, Class of 1956.
He was a proud veteran of the US Army from 1960-62 stationed at Ft. Devens.  He retired in 1999, after working for over 47 years at the American Optical Company, later Aero Company, as an administrator in the Safety and Hearing Department.

Throughout his life he always had a positive attitude and a very big heart. Donald kept busy making jigsaw puzzles and caring for his home and meticulous flower gardens. He met many new friends on his walks through town in his healthier days. Outside of his family, there were many people who knew and loved him because of his caring personality and friendly smile. No matter where he went, he always met someone he knew, and formed many bonds throughout his travels. Donald always appreciated everything he had and never asked for more.
Above all his favorite times were Christmas Eve, his yearly trips to Aruba to get a banana split, spending time with his family including his loving cat Kaspurr, and wearing his crazy socks.

His memory will live on within his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom he was tremendously proud of. He was our Angel on earth.

Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Dr. Seidler at The Cancer Center as well as the compassionate staff at Harrington Hospital.
