Alpheus "Al" H. Hoy, Jr., 87, died Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Saint Vincent Hospital. His wife was the late Jeanine (Tetreault) Hoy, who died April 8, 2008.
He is survived by daughter Tina Marie Brown; his step-daughter Gigi Gregory and her companion Kenneth Burnham of Southbridge; his step-son Darryl LaFleche and his partner Joseph Thomas of Southbridge; a brother John Hoy and his wife Lillian of Massachusetts; and 4 sisters: Jane Couch of Texas, Bert Pysher and her husband Dwayne of Pennsylvania, Gert Ready of Nevada, and Betsy Palmer of Massachusetts. He also leaves 5 grandchildren: Randy Hoy and his companion Cassie of Holyoke, Nicholas Cooney and his fiancée Erin Ronan of Woodstock, Corey Cooney of Southbridge, Melissa Hoy of Chicopee, Anthony Menard of Southbridge, and 6 great-grandchildren: Alexandria and Maeve Cooney, Lilah Hoy, Christina Laviolette, Alexiana Rodriguez, and Jason Reyes, Jr. He also leaves his in-laws Maxine and Raymond Jolie of Uxbridge, and Paul and Ann Tetreault of Southbridge, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Hoy, and his sister Alice Hunt.
Al was born in Pownal, Vermont, son of the late Alpheus and Mary Alice (Fowler) Hoy, Sr. and has lived here for many years. He was an operation engineer and construction worker for Local Union # 98, working mostly at Fijols Construction.
He most enjoyed working in his basement workshop and spending time with his family and sharing with them his knowledge of building and fixing things. He could often be found attending the family's sporting events as often as he could.
He was a very generous man who would share and give to whoever was in need. He loved his companions, his dogs, "Rufus" and "Peter" who were his constant travel buddies who gave him a reason to keep going and staying strong, especially after his wife passed away. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to make a donation to Second Chance Animal Shelter in his name.
Calling hours will be Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 4-6PM at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA 01550. Burial will be Monday, October 3, at 10AM at New Notre Dame Cemetery, 746 N. Woodstock Road, Southbridge.
