Southbridge...Aida Luz Mateo, 86, a longtime resident of Southbridge, died Friday, January 14, 2022, at home after an illness. Her husband Domingo Mateo died in 2010.
She is survived by her 4 children, Noel Mateo, Magda Tappenden and her husband William, Luz Mateo, Domingo Mateo and his wife Marilyn, and 5 grandchildren, David of Texas, Mercedes of Spencer, Aida Parada and her husband Dan of Chelmsford, Felix Alicea, Jr. of Worcester, and Olivia Tappenden of Pomfret Center, and 5 great-grandchildren, Providence Janjua, Jackson Janjua, Penelope Janjua, and Julian Janjua, and Isaac Parada. She also leaves her siblings, Maria Monserrate Alers of Southbridge, Ana Lydia Velez of Southbridge, Carmen Sara Lugo of Staten Island, NY, and Ruben Velez of Puerto Rico. She was predeceased by her son Johnny Mateo, and her sister Hilda Velez.
She was born in Isabela, PR, daughter of Santa and Hijino Velez and was a member of Saint Mary's Church. Mrs. Mateo was a retired teacher's aide in the public school system.
She enjoyed shopping, eating out, and spending time with her family.
