Robert Selvey

SELVEY Robert, 97, of Sturbridge, MA died peacefully May 17, 2019 at home surrounded by family. Born December 4, 1921 in Gartcosh, Scotland, he was the son of John Wesley Selvey and Annie (Harrison) Selvey. He immigrated to the US as a 7 year old in 1929 and lived most of his life in Boston, MA. He attended English High School in Boston, and then worked at the Emory Wheel Factory before entering the US Army in 1942 to serve in World War II. During the war her served as a medic in both the New Guinea and the Philippians Campaigns. Robert married Jean MacLaughlin July 8, 1962 at Most Precious Blood Church in Hyde Park, MA. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage together before Jean died in 1986. Robert retired in 1990 after working 27 years for the US Postal Service. In 2001, Robert relocated to Sturbridge, MA and happily lived out the rest of his life very involved with running the Bingo and leading sing-a-longs at the Sturbridge Senior Center as well as indulging his many hobbies including word working, cross-stitching, and playing his guitar. Most know Bob for his positive outlook on life and ability to weather any adversity.
 
Robert is survived by his three sons; Mark Thomas Selvey of Sturbridge, MA, Scott Andrew Selvey of Prosper, TX and Robert Selvey, Jr. of Brookline, MA; daughter-in-laws Barbara Cordes Selvey of Sturbridge, MA, and Michelle Niles Selvey of Prosper, TX. Robert was devoted to his three grandchildren; Evan James Selvey and Brett Alistair Selvey both of Sturbridge, MA, and Chloe MacKenzie Selvey of Prosper, TX. He was also preceded in death by brothers John (Jack) Selvey and Thomas Selvey. The family wishes to thank the amazing staff of Central Massachusetts Hospice for their care, comfort and compassion. Services for Robert will be private. Burial will also be private in Fairview Cemetery, Hyde Park, MA.
