Sturbridge...Leo G. Parent, 95, died Friday, May 3, 2019, at Brookside Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. His wife of 70 years was the late Leonie B. (Hamel) Parent, who died May 9, 2014 . They were married August 31, 1944.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws Leo and his wife Madeline Parent of Flagstaff, Arizona, Paul and his wife Louise Parent of Southbridge, Daniel and his wife Mary Beth Parent of Sturbridge, Kevin Parent of Sturbridge, and his daughter Darlene Proper and her husband Bruce of Sturbridge, a brother Lucien 'Babe" Parent of Midlothian, VA, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Aimee, Albert, Joe, and Rene, and 2 sisters Rita Poulin, and Eva Lamontagne.
Leo was born in Millville, MA, son of Edmond and Rose (LaFleur) Parent and has lived most of his life in Sturbridge. He was a proud WW2 veteran of the US Army, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was a Police Officer for the Town of Sturbridge for many years, and retired from the maintenance department of Burgess Elementary School in Sturbridge. Many years ago worked as an installer at McKinstry Oil in Southbridge, and was also a Sturbridge School bus driver.
He was a member of the American Legion in Sturbridge, and years ago he enjoyed flying with his son, but he most enjoyed spending time with his family playing guitar and singing.
A calling hour will be held on June 1, 2019, at Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge, MA 01550, from 8:30-9:30AM followed by a graveside service at 10AM at St. Anne's Cemetery, Arnold Road, Sturbridge, MA 01566. www.sansoucyfuneral.com
