Hazel H (O'Claire) Petit

Southbridge....Hazel H. (O'Claire) Petit, 81,  of Southbridge, died at home Tuesday, June 6, 2017, surrounded by her family.. Her husband of nearly 49 years, was the late Leo H. Petit who died in 2012. She is survived by her son Glen R. Petit and his fiancée Dawn Stewart of Southbridge, and her daughter Brenda Hodge and her husband Richard of Sturbridge. She also leaves her grandchildren Riley Hodge, Ryan Hodge, Courtney Petit, Kylee, Tessa, and Ashlyn. She also leaves her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Alice (Petit) and Donald LaBarge of Tolland, CT, and Claire (Petit) and Kenneth Cram of Wilton, Maine, 2 nephews, and a niece. She was predeceased by her sister Lt. Col. (ret.). Joyce O'Claire, who died in 2013.

Hazel was born in Southbridge, daughter of the late Earl and Ethel (Richards) O'Claire, and lived many years in Sturbridge, before moving to Southbridge. She was a member of Notre Dame Church (St. John Paul II Parish) and was a graduate of the former Mary E. Wells High School Class of 1953. She worked for over 30 years in the accounts payable department of the American Optical Company. She was an avid reader, especially the newspapers, she enjoyed doing puzzles, playing cards, caring for "her dogs" Gizmo, and Daisy, but most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. The family is grateful for the care Hazel received from Dr. Alfred, and Nancy, Davita Center, the VNA of Southern Worcester County, Tri-Valley Elder Services and the Visiting Angels. A special primary caretaker Dawn Stewart, who took special care of Hazel.

The funeral will be Saturday,  June 10, 2017, from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy Street, Southbridge with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Notre Dame Church, 446 Main Street, Southbridge, MA 01550. A calling hour will be held from 8:30-9:30AM at the funeral home prior to the Mass. Burial will be private.
