Sturbridge...Bernard Zajac, 90, died at The Meadows of Central Massachusetts, after an illness. He leaves his wife of 68 years Rita L. (Corriveau) Zajac. They were married June 24, 1950 at Notre Dame Church. He also leaves his sons John Zajac and his wife Louise (Daigle) Zajac of Sturbridge, Frank Zajac and his wife Debra (Shea) Zajac of Palm Coast, FL, and daughter Nancy (Zajac) Pierangeli and her loving companion Joseph Genoa of Sturbridge. He also leaves a grandson Robert Pierangeli III, and his wife Kelli (Sheehan) Pierangeli of Douglas, MA,
2 granddaughters Julie (Zajac) Sanders of Texas, Laura Zajac of MA, and a great-grandson John Pierangeli of Avon, CT.
He was predeceased by his sister Jennie Zajac, and his grandson, Jason Pierangeli.
He was born in Southbridge, son of Frank Zajac and Cecylia (Niewiadomska) Zajac. He graduated from the former Cole Trade High School in Southbridge, and served in the US Army during World War II. After his military service, he began a career as a contractor for Madore Engineering in Southbridge until he retired in 1988.
During his retirement, he spent the winter months in Punta Gorda, Florida and summers at the lake on Leadmine Pond in Sturbridge. He enjoyed golf, tennis, horseshoes, and playing cribbage.
