Southbridge - Raymond J. Ayotte, 86, of Pinedale Street, died Saturday, Jan. 9th, 2010, at Lanessa Extended Care, Webster, following an illness.

Mr. Ayotte was born in Southbridge, son of the late Armand and Beatrice (Gaumond) Ayotte. He leaves his wife, Anita T. (Casaubon) Ayotte, whom he married November 6, 1948. He also leaves his daughters, Jeanne Ayotte, of Southbridge; Madeleine, wife of William DeHaven, of Marcellus, NY; and Paulette, wife of Paul Franklin, of Naples, FL; a brother, Lionel Ayotte, of Webster; a sister, Pauline Ayotte, of Southbridge; 4 grandchildren, Dennis Franklin, Pam DeHaven, Chrissy DeHaven, and Kim DeHaven; 3 great-grandchildren, Ilyssa, Ethan, and Addisen; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Ayotte, and George Ayotte, and two sisters, Rita Berry, and Jeannette Robidoux.

Mr. Ayotte retired from the American Optical Co., where he worked for 42 years as a lens grinder. After his retirement, he worked as a custodian in the Southbridge Public Schools for 5 years. He was a WW2 veteran of the US Army, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign, and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Mr. Ayotte was a member of Notre Dame Church. He belonged to the AO Quarter Century Club, the DAV, and enjoyed spending summers at the lake with his family.

The funeral will be Monday, Jan. 11, from Sansoucy Funeral Home, 40 Marcy St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Notre Dame Church, 446 Marcy St., Southbridge. Burial with Military Honors will be in New Notre Dame Cemetery, N. Woodstock Rd, Southbridge. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday, Jan. 10, from 4 - 6 PM.
