Southbridge, Betzaida Rivera Velez, passed away at UMASS Memorial Health Harrington on April 6, 2024 while surrounded by her loving family. Betzaida was born on August 6, 1954 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, and was a longtime resident of Southbridge. She was the daughter of Ernesta Velez and Eduardo Rivera of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico.
Betzaida relocated from Puerto Rico to the United States in 1987. As a single parent, she raised 3 amazing and successful daughters, “Las 3 Nenas.” In her spare time, Betzaida enjoyed scratching lottery tickets, playing bingo, and testing her luck at the local casinos. Above all, Betzaida enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a proud mother and grandmother who always wore a smile that lit up the room. She was loved by many family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Betzaida leaves behind Las 3 Nenas: Lourdes Lopez-McMoore and her husband Tomi (Kome) McMoore from Colorado Springs, CO; Darysabel (Dary) Lopez from Southbridge; Liz Yamaliz Lopez and her partner Felix Manuel from Southbridge; and Militza (Milly) Aponte who she considers like a daughter.
She also leaves behind six grandchildren and one great-grandson: Brianaliz Colon, her finance Brian DeJesus and son Brayden; Charles Potters III (or as Abuela would call him, Charlito); Katelyn McMoore; Kimberly McMoore; Anaya Compres; and Nataliz Cruz. Betzaida was also loved by her fur-grand babies: Princess, Harry, Callie, and Chewy.
Betzaida’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her PCA team of who provided care, comfort, and unconditional love.
Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral Mass which will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 247 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, MA 01550.
